The Process -- Stage 2 : Design & Development

Now you are ready to BUILD the actual web site! First you will create a unique design using Fireworks. Once this PNG is approved by your client, you will move into Dreamweaver and build the HTML pages. The information that goes into each page will be provided by your client.

  1. Aim high : Your team should begin by reviewing the requirements for your web site listed on your Web Site Evaluation Rubric. Keep in mind these are the minimum—try to go above and beyond so your client is saitisfied.
  2. Be original : Next begin brainstorming and sketching out the look & feel and navigation. Come up with the basic design and layout in Fireworks. Share your ideas with the Project Manager for feedback. Email the PNG file to your client for approval.
  3. Collaborate to success : Once the layout is approved, export it into HTML. Create templates and a style sheet in Dreamweaver as needed, and share these files with your team members so that they may work on their assigned pages. Be sure that everyone on your team is saving their files in the Collaborate folder on the network!!
  4. Share the workload : Each member should contribute to the overall project but maintain responsibilty for their assigned page and role.
  5. Communication is the key : Each member of your design team should work on completing their part of the web site. At least once per class period, you should hold a team meeting to share findings and creations. Jot down notes to help you know where your team will begin the next day—remembering that each team member needs to coordinate with the others to give a complete look when the entire site is developed. Communication is key!
  6. Quality Assurance Testing : Once you think your entire site is done, your team should do a final check of the web site to assure quality. Go through the Rubric and checklist as a team to be sure your web site is complete and all requirements have been met. When you are satisfied with the web site and the requirements have been met, continue on to the Evaluation Section.
